ISP offenders form choir
Seven Iowa State Penitentiary offenders recently preformed for staff and others as part of a multiple denomination choir called "The Voices of Praise". The vocal group is the newest opportunity for ISP offenders to make positive change in their lives by focusing on the therapeutic effects of singing.
The chorus was formed six months ago at the request of several offenders. The chorus receives guidance from Louis and CJ Bolding who are religious volunteers who come into the institution weekly to lead this dynamic group. Membership is open to all General population offenders and the group currently has seven active members.
They offered a fall program for the maximum custody offenders as well as the offenders at the Clinical Care Unit. Both audiences gave the group high marks. GED graduation robes were donated to the group by SCC and provide the finishing touch.
The group hopes to perform in the ISP visiting room sometime in the future for outside guests. The vocal group is currently preparing a holiday program which is highly anticipated by the offender population.
